Missionary Courage
Many of us have contact with Loreto sisters through parishes and schools. So we remember and pray for the two Irish Loreto religious sisters working in South Sudan. They have said they will not be leaving the 700 schoolgirls in their care despite the recent violence that erupted in the region. There has been heavy fighting between rebels and government soldiers in the capital Juba in recent times and thousands of people have fled the violence. Hunger is a big concern for the nuns at the school – there was already very little food in the area before the latest outbreak of violence. The sisters are totally committed to their work and are entirely selfless. Their story is an example of the vital missionary work that Irish orders have been doing for decades.
