Welcome to St. Patrick’s Youth Choir

The Choir
St. Patrick’s has had a long tradition of youth choirs, director Ian Brabazon started his musical career
here. The vision and ethos of this choir is not only to provide music for the liturgy but also provide an
education role to its members. It is hoped all members will receive a traditional classical education in
music theory along with group singing and performance.
About Us:
Laura is an internationally successfully vocalist and vocal coach. Laura studied music at
Maynooth University and went on to perform as a professional vocalist in many shows and concerts
including “Lord of the dance” in Las Vegas for a number of years. She now holds a position as a
teacher in a Gaelscoil and is a sought after vocal coach.
Ian is a director of a multi-media company providing specialised education programmes to
universities and schools. He comes from a strong music and education background with a B.A., h.dip.,
and M.phil. in Music. After studying he lectured music at Trinity College and then N.U.I.M. and has
been involve in parish music for the past 21 years.
Membership:
In order to comply with St. Patrick’s child protection policy (available online) Parent/Guardian/Carer is
required to fill out the attached form and return it at the start of the next rehearsal.
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals start at 6.30 and finish at 7.10 sharp
The children will also receive music theory lessons each 2nd Tuesday as soon as a mass repertoire is
established
Performance Times:
The choir will sing at 10.30 mass on Sundays at the following masses for this year in conjunction with
the do this in memory programme. (22nd nov, 13th dec, 24th jan, 14th feb, 7th march , 1st april, 18th
april, 6th june) This may become more frequent as the choir progresses we will keep you informed.
Conduct:
Children and young people will be treated with courtesy, respect and dignity and the same is expected
of the children towards staff/volunteers and fellow members. Members should be mindful rehearsals
take place in the church. Breaches of this code of conduct will be promptly dealt with.
Contact:
The choir contact number is 086 8393447 (maintained by vita studios) and is available during hours of
business and 9.00 a.m. to 22.30 p.m. on rehearsal nights.
Supervision:
1) The directors will supervise the people in their care when on the Church premises during the
rehearsal and performance times. It is the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian/Carer to transport their
child/children to and from the Church door children cannot make there own way to the car park
unsupervised.
2) Parents are not allowed in the church during rehearsals (Garda clearance required) but feel free to
wait in the hall of the church
3) If a Parent/Guardian/Carer is late collecting their child/children, the Leader will:
• Attempt to contact the Parent/Guardian/Carer on the number(s) provided
• Check the choir contact number for any information regarding the child or young person (086
8393447)
• If necessary wait with the young person at the Church with, wherever possible with other
staff/volunteers or parents.
• Remind the Parents/Guardians/Carers of the policy relating to late collection
• Where a Parent/Guardian/Carer remains un-contactable, the leader will need to report the situation to
the relevant bodies.

Media consent
The choir will make cd recordings and video recordings to be used for teaching other
parish youth groups and for use on the media equipment in the church.
Photographs/filming/recording of children/young people engaged in church related
