The Esker Folk Group was formed in the early 1980’s when the Parish of Esker, was small but a thriving community. The Group has gone from strength to strength over the years with a steady supply of willing and able singers and musicians. We practice on a weekly basis at 8.30p.m. on Wednesday night in St Patricks’s Church. The folk group sing every Sunday at the 12 noon mass. With the rapid growth of Esker Parish over the last 15 years in particular, the Folk Group have often been called upon for help with various charities and community events. Calender of Yearly Events The First Friday of every month we sing for the "Friends of the Elderly". Christmas time, we do Carol Singing with the local National Schools (St Thomas’ and St Anne’s) this is to raise funds for the schools. We have also sung at the Christmas Mass in Arbour Hill Prison and in the local nursing home. But at Christmas our favourite mass is 4th Sunday in Advent. The two Sundays before this, the children at the 12 o’clock masses come up and tell us their favourite Christmas Carol and their name and on the 4th Sunday of Advent we sing what the children have requested. After the Mass, the children and their parents are invited to the Parish Centre for a little celebration. For Easter, we usually have a quiet reflection , through song and readings on Holy Thursday night at approximately 8.30 p.m. The Folk Group enjoys a good social life. Our Plans As a follow up to the Television Mass last January we have put together a few of the songs we sing at Mass, on a CD and the proceeds go to the Church extension fund. We are looking at new developments in relation to our Parish Website and the visualization of our hymns. New Members are Always Welcome!
